چکیده

According to the perception that subjects have about geographic objects, people can evaluate their proximity. The answers to the question if a geographic object is near other will be different according to the environment that the objects belong to. Also, when we consider geographic objects that do not have well defined boundaries, the perceptions of people with respect to the distance will be very different. This work focuses on determining the proximity relationships between geomorphological objects such as mountains and plains in order to find composite geomorphometric objects based on their semantic description. The paper describes a methodology in which we propose the use of relations between geomorphological objects to determine if an area (semantically described) can be considered as a “valley”. We particularize the distance metric in the application domain of the landforms byapplying polls that allow us to obtain the perception of people about the proximity.

Geomorphometric Analysis of Maroon River by Digital Elevation Model

Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are used to estimate different morphologies, analysis of river profile, delineating drainage basin and drainage pattern associated with lithological and structural changes. The study area is Maroon River located in Khuzestan Province, Iran. In this study geomorphometric analysis based on DEM carried out to understand Maroon river uplift rate and tectonic- erosion...

Watershed conservation prioritization using geomorphometric and land use-land cover parameters

Geomorphometric features and land use/land cover are essential in the context of watershed prioritization for resources conservation and protection. Watersheds in tropical regions like the Philippines are under threat of degradation due to the combined effects of uncontrolled agricultural activities in the uplands and frequently increasing erosive precipitations brought about by climate change....

Assessment of the Efficiency of Climatic factors and geomorphometry in predicting vegetation percentages based on machine learning processes

Introduction: Rangelands are natural ecosystems having large genetic resources. Since plant vegetation is the bed of life on earth and changes under the influence of surrounding environmental elements, using environmental element can highly contribute to estimate vegetation percent more accurately. Two effective elements which can contribute to estimate the vegetation distribution are climatic ...

Eigenvector Analysis of Digital Elevation Models in a GIS: Geomorphometry and Quality Control

Digital elevation models (DEMs) cover a wide range of scales, and allow statisticalanalysis of geomorphometric parameters. At global or continental scale, DEMs covering rectangular quadrangles can be considered random samples. Average quadrangle values can be compared at different DEM scales, and for different physiographic provinces. Three independent variables provide valuable descriptions of...

Semantic assessment of similarity between raster elevation datasets Valoración semántica de la similitud entre conjuntos de datos raster de elevación

This paper describes a method to assess the similarity between digital elevation models (DEM), based on the comparison of the landforms. The method attempts to mimic the one commonly used by human beings, which consists of comparisons among the shapes that a human subject identifies in the landscape. To do so, semantic similarity measurements are applied over a hierarchy of concepts. Our method...
